International Journal for Quality in Health Care, volume 32, n. 8, pp. 531–544. Abstract Purpose: To systematically review the impact of hospital accreditation on healthcare quality indicators, as classified into seven healthcare quality dimensions. Data source: We searched eight databases in June 2020: EBSCO, PubMed, Web of Science, Emerald, ProQuest, Science Direct, Scopus and Virtual Health Library. Search terms were conceptualized into three groups: hospitals, accreditation and terms relating to healthcare quality. The eligibility criteria included academic articles that applied quantitative methods to examine the impact of hospital accreditation on healthcare quality indicators. Study selection: We applied the PICO framework to select the articles according to the following criteria: Population—all types of hospitals; Intervention—hospital accreditation; Comparison—quantitative method applied to compare accredited vs. nonaccredited hospitals, or hospitals before vs. after accreditation; Outcomes—regarding the seven healthcare quality dimensions. After a critical appraisal of the 943 citations initially retrieved, 36 studies were included in this review. Results of data synthesis: Overall results suggest that accreditation may have a positive impact on efficiency, safety, effectiveness, timeliness and patient-centeredness. In turn, only one study analyzes the impact on access, and no study has investigated the impact on equity dimension yet. Conclusion: Mainly due to the methodological shortcomings, the positive impact of accreditation on healthcare dimensions should be interpreted with caution. This study provides an up-to-date overview of the main themes examined in the literature, highlighting critical knowledge-gaps and methodological flaws. The findings may provide value to healthcare stakeholders in terms of improving their ability to assess the relevance of accreditation processes.

Journal of Marketing Management, volume 36, n. 11/12, pp. 1009-1030.. Abstract: Endorsement studies have gained complexity with the possibilities created by social media platforms, where ordinary consumers can achieve celebrity status and rise to the level of digital influencers. Recent studies highlight that influencers have evolutionary trajectories. However, little is known about how these trajectories are related to social media endorsement dynamics. Based on a five-year netnography, this research investigates the main forms of endorsement that connect digital influencers and brands and how endorsement practices evolve along influencers’ trajectories. The research outlines three forms of endorsement relationship that evolve during the influencer’s career cycle: experimenting, partnering and bonding. Finally, the paper argues that brands play different roles, as providers, partners and hirers, supporting and rewarding digital influencers’ entrepreneurial process.

Journal of Transport Geography, volume 60, pp. 33-46. Abstract: Empirical and anecdotal evidence suggests Brazilian ports are running short in operational capacity for cargo handling and shipping movements. This paper focuses on the joint use of Fuzzy Logic (FL) reasoning and Social Network Analysis (SNA) to assess the cargo allocation pattern in Brazilian ports while shedding some light on policy-making directions and future research venues. Results suggest that cargo allocation patterns vary depending on the cargo type and product type. One can also infer that shippers prioritize distance in relation to other port allocation criteria. In the case of containerized cargo, this may be due to its higher value added compared to bulk cargo. Sensitivity analyses are also performed on the weights of port allocation criteria to explore opportunities for cargo relocation among ports in Brazil.

Journal of International Development, volume 29, número 1, pp. 117-133. Abstract: This paper describes a variety of approaches used to assess the efficiency of a sample of major insurance companies in Angola and Mozambique between 2003 and 2012. Several data envelopment analysis estimates were generated using bootstrap technique, as this allowed the use of confidence intervals and the correction of a biased perception noted in the core estimates, in order to test the significant differences identified in efficiency levels and the input‐decreasing/output‐increasing potentials in the meta‐frontier analysis in both countries. Findings indicate that there seems to be a scarcity of opportunities to accommodate future demands, pinpointing that the technological gap ratio of the meta‐frontier is negligible.

BBR. Brazilian Business Review, volume 14, n. 1.

Journal of Modelling in Management, volume 15, número 4, pp. 1389-1417. Abstract Purpose: This study aims to analyze the performance of four different fuzzy inference system-based forecasting tools using a real case company. Design/methodology/approach: The forecasting tools were tested using 27 products of the nail polish line of a multinational beauty company and the performance of said tools was compared to those of the company’s previous forecasting methods that were basically qualitative (informal and intuition-based). Findings: The performance of the methods analyzed was compared by using mean absolute percentage error. It was possible to determine the characteristics and conditions that make each model the best for each situation. The main takeaways were that low kurtosis, negatively skewed demand time-series and longer horizon forecasts that favor the fuzzy inference system-based models. Besides, the results suggest that the fuzzy forecasting tools should be preferred for longer horizon forecasts over informal qualitative methods. Originality/value: Notwithstanding the proposed hybrid modeling approach based on fuzzy inference systems, our research offers a relevant contribution to theory and practice by shedding light on the segmentation and selection of forecasting models, both in terms of time-series characteristics and forecasting horizon. The proposed fuzzy inference systems showed to be particularly useful not only when time-series distributions present no clear central tendency (that is, they are platykurtic or dispersed around a large plateau around the median, which is the characteristic of negative kurtosis), but also when mode values are greater than median values, which in turn are greater than mean values. This large tail to the left (negative skewness) is typical of successful products whose sales are ramping up in early stages of their life cycle. For these, fuzzy inference systems may help managers screen out forecast bias and, therefore, lower forecast errors. This behavior also occurs when managers deal with forecasts of longer horizons. The results suggest that further research on fuzzy inference systems hybrid approaches for forecasting should emphasize short-term forecasting by trying to better capture the “tribal” managerial knowledge instead of focusing on less dispersed and slower moving products, where the purely qualitative forecasting methods used by managers tend to perform better in terms of their accuracy.
